So after about a week of just generally glancing at auctions and dealer stock on Tradecarview a couple of weeks before Christmas, i've pulled the trigger on the cheapest/best Beat I found. This happened to be the cheapest one on Tradecarview, for some reason. Guess I'll find out why it's so cheap when it gets here. It's been graded at 3.5/B and is not perfect by any means.
Just how cheap you ask? How does $2850US delivered to Halifax sound? The dealer even said he was going to put new tires on it for me! Crazy deal. Just got the shipping notice today: departs Jan 23rd from Yokohama on the Tamerane. Will probably be here before the snow is gone.
Some of you might ask "Why a Beat?" Or "What the fudge are you going to do with that thing?". Honestly, I'm not sure why I want one so bad or why I had to get one now (I'm so broke now that I can't afford a pair of knockoff Beats headphones). All I know is that I've wanted one since the early 2000's when I discovered the car. The first time I saw one was in an "exotic car" calendar. Very odd that in a calendar full of Lambos, Porsches, and Ferarris that the last 2 months were a yellow E36 M3 and a yellow Beat. Weird.

Congrats man hope you like it! looks like a sweet litter car, but you should probably swap a 2JZ in there....
I have always liked Kei cars, but funny enough the Beats are probably my least favorite. I think it might be the soft top I personally don't like as much. But good for you for pulling the trigger, something I haven't been able to do on a Alto/Cappuccino.

Im excited to hear what you have to say about it when you get it!

First time I layer eyes on one...way sexier than an abarth!
That price is ridiculous, wouldn't shipping alone be 1000?
    Nice snag man.

Shipping should be pretty cheap for a car that light, AND the exchange rate is really good right now, so roadsters are a fine value!

Don't they just ship them based off the M3 of the vehicle?

Also, cool little car. Crazy awesome price! Seems too good to be true.

I think you're right about the Square Meters of the car, but even then the car is tiny, so it should be cheap!
If you think 1000$ for shipping on a Kei car is very expensive, and 1850$ US for the car and arranging it to port, they are still making decent money, and you get a decent car.

Seems like every dealer on Tradecarview has a different rate for shipping. This car is in Chiba and relatively close to the Yokohama port. The price of the car was initially $2250-ish US. When I inquired about the car, the dealer automatically gave me a CIF price of $2980 US from Yokohama to Hfx. I submitted an offer for $2850US and they accepted....and SOLD!
If you look at other cars on Tradecarview, they are super cheap, but they tack on $2500 for shipping.
This was a deal I couldn't pass up. Like I said, I'll let you know if it's too good to be true when it gets here.
Now I REALLY can't wait for spring...

So I just got a message from the dealer in Japan... The car has been delivered to the port!
...best of all, the guy did an oil change to it AND PUT 4 BRAND NEW TIRES ON IT!
The tires were 'cracked' on the inspection sheet, but the dealer mentioned something about new tires on the OEM alloy wheels, so I simply asked what was on it...I guess now I know for sure :) I'm thinking there was a bit of a language barrier and stuff just happened...at no extra cost to me. I'm not complaining ;) 20613818_1.JPG

    2 different sets of tires?

I know the beat is 13"/14" staggered... right? Maybe that's why?

Yes, 155/65/13 fr, 165/60/14 RR. Apparently the correct size tires are hard to get here in NA...so again, not complaining :)
