Changed the valve cover gasket in the Z this afternoon. God knows I love kei vehicles but man... working on them strains incredulity at times! Everything is SUCH a tight fit!

With my luck it will still leak a little and I'll have to do this all over again in a month or so. Stay tuned! :(

Nice work! It's rare we get to see pics of people doing work on keis! :) Do you have a translated service manual, or were you just playing it by ear for torques, etc?

With valve covers, you just play it by ear. Tight, but not too tight. Especially since everything is aluminum. I don't have a service manual - this spring I'll get one. They are handy to have! I have them for the AZ-1 and the Figaro.

That's awesome. Looks like a D16 with 1 cylinder lopped off. Do I spy coils on plugs? Civic in N/A didn't get COP until 2001.
I'm not even going to think about doing engine work on the Beat....you have to go in through the back window on the roof :)
Any idea if the Z and Beat engines are similar?

They are indeed the same engines - but mine is turbocharged. Both are SOHC 12-valve engines. And yes - I've seen a Beat's engine bay, and it is a bit of a nightmare. Very similar to my AZ-1. Mind you, this Z is no walk in the park either! Get ready for scraped knuckles and a sore back!

Ooo, do I sense some some potential Beat mods on the rise? :p
