What's the closest cross street for the new office? Is this where people are supposed to go to do their customs work now or is it just an alternate location?

lol no.. it was just clearance from a dealer.

you got to keep in mind that shipping is still $1000 or so.. plus everything else.. so a free car still cost you like $2k.

Pretty crazy! The downside for me IS the shipping being out here on the East Coast....even if I got something cheap, it's a lot to get it all the way here... :(

Had someone ask me about the Soil Exam form (Request for release Approval) :
    How To Fill It Out
"Broker" can be left blank (Or i just put my own name)
"Transaction #." can be left blank
"Port of Entry" can be same as the port of entry
    "Delivery address" can be blank
"Vessel Name" - Check the Bill O Lading
"Voyage No." - refer to Bill O lading
"Port of Discharge" - WWL Annacis Island (820 Dock Road
Bill of Lading No." - check your Bill O lading
Credit card info at the bottem, and then Sign it.

    Fax it back to 604-713-9844

From the time you head to customs with all the paperwork, how many business days/hours does it take until you are OK to go get the car? I'm not from the lower mainland so I don't clear myself, but I'd like to try it sometime. It seems like you cannot do it all in one day anymore, since WWL implemented the background check/clearance and set appt dates to pick up your car.

just curious about step#2, when you are notified do you find they only notify you once the car has arrived? Ihatedomestics tells me he normally hears well before it arrives.

correct its usually a few days before the car arrives.

    Keep in mind this is for Vancouver though timelines and procedures on the east coast are different most likely;

Ok good to know, from reading your original post I thought I had to wait until the vehicle was here. I guess this means normally you could get a bit of a head start on the paperwork.
Just got the paperwork. Truck due in tomorrow.

Were the Elgrand headlights an issue for getting your Insurance? My van arrived and is in great shape but getting insurance is proving to be a pain in the dick.

Not sure what province your in, In BC once your passed the Out of Province inspection your good to go.
Alberta should be pretty easy as well.

*Edit* just realized you are in Vancouver..
So i assume your using a shop thats being anal about the headlights.

    Hey Guys,

I'm about to attempt to clear customs for the first time on my own & my car is scheduled to land any day soon.

My question is where/who do I get the "Request for Release" form from? Do I have to run to a customs office to grab one?

Thanks in advance for your help & knowledge.

Edit 20 mins later. I used "the Google"
& was able to find the phone number for the CBSA Agricultural unit. 604-713-9800. They can only fax you one but I now have the form in hand.
