I like odd cars. Didn't see any Verossa in Canada. I had JZX100 before, decided to try next and final generation JZX110.

Picked up this unique car: 2002 Toyota Verossa Speciale VR25 SG

They are pretty rare, "Speciale" version has only visual differences with regular Verossa and were made based on 2L 1G engine, 2.5L 1JZ N/A engine and 2.5 L 1JZ-GTE engines.
But "SG" trim is only for turbo engines and has some performance mods. Looks like only around hundred Speciale SG were made, almost nothing in auction statistics.

    What so special about "Speciale"
    • tuned by Modellista
    • Modellista bodykit
    • Interior are fully redone with Alcantara
    "SG" trim options:
    • 1JZ-GTE tuned by Yamaha (different turbo) and officially makes 300 HP (we all know about 280 HP rule)
    • Unique colors options only for "SG", mine is 1D2
    • Lowered 1.5 cm suspension, mine has Cusco coilovers
    • 18" Ame Tracer wheels, mine came with winter tires on standard 17" Verossa wheels :(
    • Exhaust from 5zigen
    • Extra strut tower bars
    • Grayed out headlights
    • Hella fog lights
    Pics (from the phone)!

I definitely like the look of these.

Not sure where they came up with the idea for that interior color, but it's definitely an... eye-catcher!

Usually JDM navigation units are useless here in Canada, but thanks to globalization I was able to convert my to English and GPS navigation has North American maps now.
Apparently Toyota and Lexus from early 2000 started to use same navigation hardware in Japan, North America and Europe. There is a hidden menu where it is possible to change region, after that just insert that region DVD with maps and it should work.
My GPS unit is a 3rd generation, latest maps are from 2012-2013, but still better than nothing. Also there is English voice guidance.
4th generation unit has same connectors, so it is possible to replace it, just plug and play. Latest maps for 4th generation from 2015.

DVD has maps for USA and Canada

Some little apps like Calendar and Maintenance reminder in English now

    This is how map looks

Changed the cabin filter. According the part catalog there are 2 parts number 87139-48030 (thin) and 87139-50030 (thick)
Initially I thought they are the same size but different material: paper vs charcoal, but they have different thickness (19 mm vs 29 mm), they both could be installed but needed different filter frames. I bought the thick one (87139-50030) but my car had thin filter, so I couldn't fit it the existing filter frame.
Part number for the different frame is 88899-22380, I measured filter and 3D printed frame myself. It was too big for the printer bed, so printed 4 parts and glued together, what is why it is different colors.

Hold on hold on. Please let me know where this secret menu is! I just got a VR25 Verossa in myself, and if I can run localized navigation, it'd make my screen less useless. Thanks!

You can only convert to English if your navigation unit is made by Denso. There are some navi units made by Aisin and they could't converted to English.
I have navi unit part# 86841-13010, which is 3rd generation.

You need to get USA navigation DVD for the 3rd navi generation (if you have same unit)
If you get ISO file, burn it to the double layer DVD DVD+R, I used Verbatim DVD+R DL

    Steps:
    1. Put your car on hand brake
    2. Remove Japanese navigation DVD and close the DVD cover
    3. Switch Ignition to ACC
    4. Press second left button on the multivision (beside TV button)
    5. You will see menu with the icons. Press icon with the "disc and the flag"
    6. Press:
    • left upper corner
    • left down corner
    • left upper corner
    • left down corner
    • right down corner
    1. You show be in the hidden menu where you can choose different region. Choose 3rd from the top (USA, touchscreen).

    3. Navi should restart and will ask you about disc. Insert USA disc
    4. Done!
